Russian strike hits Roshen chocolate factory in Ukraine's Vinnytsia, company confirms
A Russian strike hit a production facility belonging to Ukrainian confectionery company Roshen in the central city of Vinnytsia on Oct. 12, the company confirmed.
No casualties were reported, as the facility's warning and evacuation systems allowed employees to reach safety before the attack, Roshen said.
The company also rejected Russian claims that its factories were being used to assemble drones, saying its facilities produce confectionery products and do not manufacture drones or other military equipment.
“Attacks on food industry facilities threaten the lives of civilian workers, destroy production capacity and jobs, and disrupt product supplies,” Roshen said.
Ukraine's State Emergency Service reported that firefighters had extinguished a blaze at the facility. More than 50 emergency responders and 13 vehicles were involved in the operation, while explosives specialists inspected the surrounding area for potentially dangerous objects.
Roshen is one of Ukraine's best-known confectionery manufacturers and is associated with former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.
