Russia strikes all three Kyiv heating and power plants in nationwide attack

Russian forces targeted all three of Kyiv's combined heat and power plants in an overnight attack on October 14, while also striking energy infrastructure, railway facilities, and civilian sites across Ukraine, Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi said.

The attacks also hit energy facilities in Kharkiv and the surrounding region, as well as critical infrastructure in Kyiv Oblast that supplies electricity to the capital and central Ukraine.

Emergency crews and energy workers were battling fires, clearing debris, and carrying out initial repairs at the affected facilities, Koretskyi said. The extent of damage to Kyiv's three plants was not immediately clear.

Russia launched 39 ballistic missiles and 128 drones during the overnight assault, according to Ukrainian authorities.

Railway infrastructure targeted in five regions

Russian strikes hit railway facilities in Kharkiv, Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, and Ternopil oblasts, according to Ukrainian Railways chief Oleksandr Pertsovskyi.

Koretskyi said people had been evacuated in advance and no casualties were reported at the railway sites. Repair work was underway.

Fires and casualties across Ukraine

In Khmelnytskyi Oblast, strikes sparked fires at businesses, while falling debris ignited a gas station. Two people sustained minor injuries. Emergency crews repeatedly had to withdraw from affected sites because of renewed Russian attacks.

In Ternopil, an administrative building caught fire, while a strike on a residential area in Rivne injured five people, one of them moderately.

A drone strike also caused a fire at an oil depot in Lutsk. Firefighters subsequently extinguished the blaze.

In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Russian attacks killed two people and injured six others, including a child. One person was killed in Pavlohrad and another in the Nikopol area. A strike on a business in Dnipro also injured a man.

The nationwide assault followed ballistic missile strikes on Kyiv that killed three people and injured at least 21, according to previously reported casualty figures.
