EU transfers €2.86 billion to Ukraine for defense needs, von der Leyen says
The European Union has transferred €2.86 billion ($3.3 billion) to Ukraine to support its defense needs, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on October 14.
The funding is intended to help Ukraine defend its airspace and territory, with drones and missiles among the priorities, von der Leyen said in a post on X.
“With today's transfer, we continue to address Ukraine's most urgent operational needs, including drones and missiles,” she wrote.
Von der Leyen did not specify in her announcement whether the transfer was part of an existing funding program or a newly approved allocation.
