Russia has damaged over 800 pieces of Ukrainian energy equipment since September, minister says

Russian forces have carried out more than 350 attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure since September, damaging over 800 pieces of equipment at substations and power generation facilities, First Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal told parliament on October 30.

About 350 of the damaged equipment units have been lost entirely, Shmyhal said during a parliamentary question-and-answer session with government ministers.

He said 235 transformers currently have a second level of physical protection designed to reduce damage from Russian attacks.

Shmyhal also discussed the effectiveness of protective structures around energy facilities, saying there had been only one recorded instance of a ballistic missile striking such a structure despite numerous ballistic attacks.

According to the minister, structures equipped with rigid pre-detonation screens have proved the most effective.

He warned that, given the current intensity of Russian strikes, restoring damaged energy facilities without protective structures could take months.
