Rescuers find survivor beneath rubble of Russian strike in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region as death toll reaches 43

Rescuers have found a person alive beneath the rubble in Komyshuvakha, a settlement in southeastern Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region, following a Russian airstrike that has now killed at least 43 people, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on November 5.

The survivor had previously been listed as missing.

Dozens of people may still be trapped beneath the debris, and search-and-rescue operations are continuing, according to Zelenskyy.

Russian forces struck a school in Komyshuvakha with aerial bombs on November 2 while humanitarian aid was being distributed there.

The reported death toll has continued to rise as rescuers search the wreckage. Earlier on November 5, Ukrainian authorities had reported 42 deaths.

In a separate part of his statement, Zelenskyy said Russia continued to attack Ukrainian cities and communities daily with missiles and drones, damaging energy infrastructure and complicating repair efforts.

He also said he had discussed support for Ukraine's energy system, civilian protection and potential joint weapons production with Portuguese President António José Seguro.

"We very much hope there will be new steps in support," Zelenskyy said.
