Ukraine, Lithuania sign energy partnership declaration ahead of winter
Ukraine and Lithuania have signed a declaration setting out key priorities for energy cooperation, including rebuilding damaged infrastructure, diversifying gas supplies and strengthening energy security ahead of winter. Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal announced the agreement following talks with his Lithuanian counterpart, Lukas Savickas.
The two countries also established a joint Lithuanian-Ukrainian Energy Partnership Coordination Group.
Cooperation will focus on decentralized power generation and energy storage, restoration and protection of energy infrastructure, gas supply diversification and Ukraine's further integration into European energy markets.
Ukraine is also seeking to accelerate the transfer of equipment from Lithuania's Kaunas thermal power plant, which Kyiv says is needed to strengthen energy resilience in Kryvyi Rih before winter. Lithuania has already supplied Ukraine with more than 6,300 metric tons of energy equipment and contributed €5.7 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund.
The countries also plan to expand gas supply routes using Lithuania's Klaipėda LNG terminal and regional infrastructure, while European partners could make use of Ukraine's underground gas storage facilities.
