UK pledges additional £10 billion in support for Ukraine, Zelenskyy says
The United Kingdom will provide Ukraine with an additional £10 billion ($13 billion approximately) in economic and export support, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on October 28 following a phone call with British Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
According to Zelenskyy, the package includes £7 billion in economic support over the next three years and £3 billion in British export support, primarily intended to facilitate weapons supplies to Ukraine.
The new funding will come on top of the UK's existing annual assistance to Ukraine, the president said.
"This is a truly strong step, and a very timely one," Zelenskyy said, adding that Russia must understand Ukraine will not be left alone to face the consequences of Moscow's war.
Zelenskyy and Burnham also discussed sanctions against Russia. The Ukrainian president said Britain would maintain its firm position on sanctions.
The announcement comes as Ukraine continues to seek additional international financial and military assistance amid Russia's ongoing attacks on its energy infrastructure.
