Trump says Zelenskyy-Putin meeting will be arranged 'very soon'
US President Donald Trump said a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian leader Vladimir Putin would be arranged "very soon," claiming that efforts to end Russia's war against Ukraine were making progress.
"We're making a lot of progress with Russia-Ukraine. There'll be a meeting set up very soon," Trump told reporters.
Asked who would attend the meeting, Trump clarified that he meant Zelenskyy and Putin.
He did not provide a date, location or details of any agreement to hold the talks.
The remarks follow recent US diplomatic contacts with Kyiv and Moscow over a possible resumption of negotiations.
Putin previously expressed willingness to resume trilateral talks involving Russia, Ukraine and the United States in mid-November.
Zelenskyy has said Ukraine is ready to participate in such negotiations, even at short notice, but stressed that progress depends on Russia.
"We also expected a trilateral meeting in October. But it did not happen because the Russians came up with another reason not to meet," Zelenskyy said.
Neither Kyiv nor Moscow has confirmed arrangements for the bilateral meeting Trump described.
