Trump ally Sergio Gor floated for senior White House roles, including Rubio's job - Washington Sun

Sergio Gor, the US ambassador to India and a close ally of President Donald Trump, is being discussed as a candidate for senior administration positions following Republicans' defeat in the November 3 midterm elections, The Washington Sun reported, citing 10 people familiar with internal discussions.

According to the report, Gor's name has surfaced as a possible replacement for Secretary of State Marco Rubio or White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. He has also been mentioned for other senior State Department roles.

Neither Rubio nor Wiles has publicly indicated plans to leave the administration. However, some officials and Republican political figures believe Rubio could eventually step down to prepare for a presidential run in 2028 or 2032, the newspaper reported.

Gor, who previously led the White House Office of Presidential Personnel, has maintained close ties with Trump and senior administration officials. His influence has reportedly expanded beyond his role as ambassador to India, including involvement in diplomatic contacts with China and Central Asian countries.

But Gor strongly denied seeking another position.

"This story is complete and total bullshit," he told The Washington Sun, calling Rubio "irreplaceable" and saying he had "zero interest in any other role."

A State Department spokesperson dismissed the report as "made-up rumors from anonymous sources," while a White House official also called it "fake."

The Washington Sun reported that Gor's relationship with Trump and his involvement in diplomatic negotiations have made him an influential figure within the administration. However, his prospects for a Cabinet position requiring Senate confirmation remain uncertain.

Gor previously worked for Republican Senator Rand Paul and played a major role in vetting political appointees during Trump's second administration. He also has business ties to the Trump family, including publishing Trump's books through his company.
