Largest NATO base in Europe to be built in Romania, accommodating up to 10,000 soldiers, their families

Romania has begun constructing Europe's largest NATO base, which will accommodate up to 10,000 military personnel and their families. For this purpose, the Mihail Kogălniceanu air base will be converted, reported Euronews Romania.
The new base will occupy approximately 2,800 hectares with a total perimeter of 30 kilometers and will be able to accommodate any type of military equipment. According to Euronews, it will surpass the Ramstein base in Germany.
The project includes runways, weapon platforms, hangars for military aircraft, as well as schools, kindergartens, shops and hospitals, and everything necessary for soldiers and their families.
"The Mihail Kogălniceanu base will become the most important permanent NATO military structure in the immediate vicinity of the conflict in southern Ukraine," said geopolitical analyst Dorin Popescu. He also noted that we should not think that this conflict will end "this year, in 2025 or in 2026," because it is a long-term one.
Currently, there are about 5,000 troops at the Mihail Kogălniceanu air base, most of whom are American soldiers.
