Ukrainian Anti-Graft Leader Summoned to PGO Over "US Election Meddling"

The Prosecutor General’s Office summoned the director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) Artem Sytnyk for questioning on May 10. The Prosecutor General’s Office wants to interrogate him as a witness in a criminal proceeding regarding a possible excess of his authority.

This was announced by the spokesperson of the Prosecutor General's Office Andriy Lysenko, Ukrainian news agency Interfax reports.

At the end of March, the State Bureau of Investigations began investigations within the framework of a criminal proceeding on possible interference by the NABU director in the U.S. presidential election.

Earlier, MP from Petro Poroshenko's Bloc Boryslav Rozenblat accused Sytnyk of trying to influence the course of the presidential election in the United States in 2016 in favor of Hillary Clinton. Rozenblat claims that Sytnyk "leaked" some financial reports to Clinton's headquarters. These reports unveiled the cooperation and fraud of the then head of Donald Trump’s campaign, Paul Manafort, with former president's Viktor Yanukovych’s Party of Regions.

Rozenblat previously published a full transcript of the alleged conversation between Sytnyk and two other men.

On March 15, Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko announced Rozenblat’s accusation on the 1+1 TV channel program "Right to Power".

On March 13, Manafort received his second sentence: in total, he got 7.5 years in prison.

In early February 2018, it became known that Manafort continued to pursue political issues in Ukraine after he was read the accusations.

CNN earlier reported that Manafort was expecting to be paid $2.4 million from Ukrainian politicians and oligarchs, including opposition MP Serhiy Lyovochkin and Rinat Akhmetov.
