Zelenskyy dismisses Oleksiy Danilov from post of National Security and Defense Council secretary

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed Oleksiy Danilov from the post of secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, according to Decree 186/2024, published on the website of the Presidential Office.

Oleksandr Lytvynenko, who was previously the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service, was appointed to replace Danilov.

Danilov had been serving as the NSDC secretary since 2019. He was appointed to replace Oleksandr Danyliuk, who resigned due to the possible cancellation of the nationalization of PrivatBank.

More about Danilov

Danilov was born in the town of Khrustalnyi (then Krasnyi Luch) in Luhansk Oblast. In the 1990s, Danilov was the chairman of the Luhansk City Council, and during the Orange Revolution he headed the Luhansk headquarters of presidential candidate Viktor Yushchenko. In 2005, Danilov also headed the Luhansk Oblast State Administration.

In addition, in 2006, the former NSDC Secretary became a member of the Verkhovna Rada on the list of the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc.
