22,000 people evacuated from border areas of Sumy Oblast

Almost 22,000 people have already been evacuated from the settlements of Sumy Oblast, as Russian troops continue to shell the border areas of the region, reported the regional military administration.

According to regional governor Volodymyr Artyukh, since the beginning of the year, the Russians have carried out more than 10,000 shellings on the territories of Sumy Oblast, while during the past year, there were 8,000 such attacks.

In August alone, the Russians shelled the region more than 2,200 times. The invaders drop guided aerial bombs and FPV drones.

Volodymyr Artyukh noted that evacuations are being carried out to protect people from the region, and as of September 1, about 22,000 people have already been moved from dangerous areas.

The official is convinced that the number of evacuees will increase. He noted that, at the moment, the priority is to provide for the needs of forced displaced persons whose homes were destroyed by the enemy.

In particular, there is already an agreement on installing 10 modular houses for 70 displaced persons in the Sumy district, and in September, construction of a modular town for 100 people is planned to begin. The project is financed with the support of the Swedish Red Cross.

The authorities of Sumy Oblast signed an order on the mandatory evacuation of 23 settlements in five communities of Sumy Oblast.

On August 20, the Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko said that 45,000 people from Sumy Oblast need to be evacuated, but this is not an urgent evacuation.

According to Artyukh, the evacuation of settlements located 5 and 10 kilometers from the contact line is currently underway.

The situation in the region

Overnight, Russian troops launched a missile attack on a convoy of grain trucks in Sumy Oblast. As a result of the attack, one person died, and four others were injured.

In total, according to regional authorities, during the night and morning, the Russians carried out 18 shellings of the border territories and settlements of Sumy Oblast. 47 explosions were recorded. The communities of Velyka Pysarivka, Bilopillia, Verkhnya Syrovatka, Krasnopillia, Yunakivka, Esman, Seredyna Buda, Hlukhiv, and Novoslobidske came under fire.

The aggressor used guided aerial bombs, artillery, mortars, and drones.
