Ukraine returns bodies of 501 fallen defenders
As a result of repatriation measures, Ukraine returned the bodies of 501 fallen defenders to the government-controlled territory, reported the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
It was possible to return the bodies of 382 defenders who died on the Avdiivka axis; 56 fallen soldiers from the Bakhmut axis; 45 bodies of defenders from the Maryinka axis; 6 bodies of defenders who died on the Vuhledar axis; 4 fallen on the Zaporizhzhia axis; 7 bodies of defenders who fought on the Luhansk axis.
One body was also returned from a morgue in the Russian Federation.
Repatriated bodies and remains will be transported to designated government institutions. Representatives of law enforcement agencies and forensic medical experts will identify the victims. After that, the defenders' bodies will be handed over to their relatives for a dignified burial.
The transfer of bodies of fallen soldiers is carried out in accordance with the norms of the Geneva Conventions.
