Four Ukrainian soldiers rescued from occupied territory after three years in hiding
Ukrainian forces evacuated four servicemen who had been hiding on Russian-controlled territory for over three years, Navy Commander Oleksiy Neyizhpapa announced on Friday.
Neyizhpapa reported that an exchanged Marine Corps serviceman revealed that during combat in eastern Ukraine in 2022, his twin brother was severely wounded and hospitalized. With help from sympathetic doctors, he evaded Russian forces for the entire period.
It was later discovered that three National Guard servicemen were also hiding in the same hospital for over three years.
Upon receiving this information, Navy command launched special evacuation measures.
The Navy’s “Angels” special reconnaissance unit successfully rescued the marine, the three National Guard soldiers, and a hospital medic who had assisted in hiding them. All are now safe with their families.
“This story is about resilience and faith. Our guys survived where it seemed there was no chance. It’s about the strength of the ‘Angels,’ who managed to extract our fighters from the heart of enemy territory, proving once again that we never abandon our own,” Neyizhpapa wrote.
He added that the “Angels” unit has now rescued 88 people.
