Customs inspector detained for fatal knife attack on military recruiter in Lviv
Lviv Oblast police have detained a 35-year-old inspector from the Lviv Customs Service suspected of fatally stabbing a military recruitment center officer, Ukraine’s National Police reported.
Law enforcement officers located and detained the man. Investigators opened a criminal case under Part 2, Paragraph 8 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — intentional murder. The article carries a penalty of 10 to 15 years in prison or life imprisonment.
The State Customs Service has confirmed to hromadske that the man detained on suspicion of murdering the serviceman is an employee of the Lviv Customs Office.
The agency said it is fully cooperating with law enforcement to establish all circumstances of the crime.
“We in no way justify or support illegal actions by our employees. The final assessment will be provided by the investigation and the court,” the State Customs Service said. “We express our sincere condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased.”
What is known about the attack?
According to police, during a military document check on Patona Street in Lviv, the man stabbed a serviceman from the Halytskyi-Frankivskyi District Territorial Recruitment Center in the neck before fleeing the scene.
The victim was hospitalized with critical damage to the carotid artery. Despite resuscitation efforts, he died.
