Two soldiers from Skelia regiment charged with beating and illegally detaining fellow servicemen
Two servicemen from the medical company of the Skelia regiment have been charged in a case involving the beating and unlawful detention of two fellow soldiers in Kirovohrad Oblast, Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigation reported.
The incident began in May 2026, when two servicemen were discharged from a hospital for violating the established treatment regime and sent to the unit’s medical section.
According to the investigation, the suspects decided to “punish” the two men themselves for breaking discipline. They allegedly struck the victims numerous times and then locked them in a utility building, where the abuse continued.
One of the soldiers lost consciousness. He was hospitalized with a traumatic brain injury, a broken nasal bone and other injuries.
The second victim, investigators said, was held unlawfully for nearly another day. He was later also taken to a hospital with a traumatic brain injury, multiple bruises, and hematomas.
The two suspects — a 30-year-old driver-electrician and a 28-year-old medic instructor from the medical company of the Skelia assault regiment — have been detained.
They have been charged under Part 2 of Article 127 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code, torture, and Part 3 of Article 406, violation of statutory rules governing relations among soldiers, accompanied by beatings and abuse of several persons.
Those charges carry a sentence of up to 10 years in prison. Investigators are now asking the court to place the suspects in pre-trial detention.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Investigators said they are also examining separate reports of possible mistreatment of soldiers at other locations used for distribution and training within the regiment.
