Attack on Tuapse refinery reportedly organized by Ukrainian military intelligence – source

The drone attack on the Tuapse Oil Refinery, located in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai, was organized by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, an informed source told hromadske.

Around 3:30 a.m. local time, drones were detected over the city, which the Russian air defense tried to shoot down. At least eight drones were allegedly launched. Later, at approximately 6:25 a.m., at least two more explosions rang out in the area of the Tuapse Oil Refinery, after which a fire started at the facility.

As the hromadske source reported, the consequences of this attack are still being clarified.

The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that overnight on July 21, air defenses allegedly destroyed 75 drones within the borders of the Rostov, Voronezh, Belgorod, Smolensk oblasts, Krasnodar Krai, and the waters of the Black and Azov seas.

The Tuapse Oil Refinery is a Russian oil refinery in Krasnodar Krai. About 90% of the company's products are exported. The refinery is part of the Rosneft oil company, its capacity is about 12 million tons per year.

In May 2024, the Tuapse Oil Refinery was already attacked by drones. After that raid, the enterprise stopped its work.
