Russian war correspondents report battles in Sudzha, Kursk Oblast
Analysts from the American Institute for the Study of War claim that Ukrainian forces are advancing up to 10 kilometers deep into Russia’s Kursk Oblast. The so-called "milbloggers" from Russia report fighting in the town of Sudzha.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) writes that geolocation footage for August 6 and 7 shows that armored vehicles advanced to positions along route 38K-030 about 10 kilometers from the international border of the Russian Federation. According to analysts, Ukrainian forces penetrated at least two Russian defense lines and a stronghold.
Russian “milbloggers” said that the Ukrainian military controls part of Sudzha, and battles are taking place in the settlement, in particular, with the involvement of armored vehicles. It was reported that Ukrainian forces had already appeared in the area of the town railway station - this is the eastern part of Sudzha.
The Rybar Telegram channel, which is close to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, wrote that the Ukrainian military occupied the western half of Sudzha, and the battle line passes through the Sudzha River.
In addition, the roads around Sudzha are allegedly under the control of Ukrainian forces, and there are skirmishes in the town itself.
Also, "milbloggers" claim that the Ukrainian troops attacked near the village of Korenevo, but they allegedly managed to stop it there.
Currently, the Ukrainian military has not officially commented on this information. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defense of Russia claims that "the advance of the enemy in Kursk Oblast was prevented", and allegedly the Ukrainian forces lost up to 400 people and 32 units of armored vehicles in Kursk Oblast.
In total, since the beginning of hostilities in the Kursk sector, the losses of the Armed Ukrainian Forces amounted to 660 soldiers and 82 units of armored vehicles, including eight tanks.
The Russian authorities report that four people died in Kursk Oblast as a result of "Ukrainian attacks". Nine people injured during shelling in the region were evacuated to Moscow hospitals. Among them is propagandist Evgeniy Poddubnyy. Officially, 34 civilians were injured, including five children.
What is happening in Kursk Oblast?
Against the background of reports of Russian "milbloggers" about a border breach in Kursk Oblast, Russian leader Vladimir Putin called out a "large-scale provocation" on the part of Ukraine. At the same time, the military leadership of Ukraine had not commented on the events in Kursk Oblast.
Meanwhile, the Kursk regiOblastonal governor stated that the region "for the last day has been heroically resisting the attacks of the Ukrainian Nazis." All emergency services of the region have been put into enhanced mode of operation. In the border areas of the region, medical institutions replenish the supply of donor blood.
Andrey Loktionov, chief non-staff surgeon of the region, reported 28 casualties. The day before, the authorities of the region reported that at least three locals had died during the day.
Neither the Ministry of Defense of Russia nor the local authorities reported on the alleged advance of Ukrainian forces in the region. Meanwhile, the Russian "milbloggers" claim that the Ukrainian troops have already occupied the settlements of Nikolaevo-Daryino, Daryino and Sverdlikovo in the Sudzha district of Kursk Oblast.
The regional governor confirmed that residents are being evacuated from the border areas. Meanwhile, in Kursk online groups and channels, the number of posts with a request to find and help take out relatives from settlements, who, according to locals, could not be contacted is increasing.
Putin convened a meeting with Minister of Defense Andrei Belousov, Secretary of the Security Council Sergei Shoigu, Director of the FSB Aleksandr Bortnikov and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov regarding the attack on Kursk Oblast. However, Gerasimov described the situation as "almost under control", claiming that the advance of Ukrainian forces had been halted.
