Russian forces attack Ukraine with 407 drone, 44 missiles
In the early hours of June 6, Russian forces conducted a large-scale assault on Ukraine, utilizing 407 drones and 44 missiles, among which were six ballistic and 38 cruise missiles of ground and air-based types, Yuriy Ihnat, head of the Ukrainian Air Force Command's communications department, said during the national telethon broadcast.
These are preliminary figures due to the high volume of Russian aerial attack assets. Specifically, Russian strategic aviation aircraft Tu-95 and Tu-166 were active, launching missiles from Saratov Oblast over the Caspian Sea.
As of now, it is reported that around 30 cruise missiles out of 38 were intercepted, along with approximately 367 drones, of which 200 were destroyed by firepower and another 167 were lost or suppressed by electronic warfare.
"Today, the Defense Forces worked extremely hard. They mostly attacked from the north of Ukraine—Sumy, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv oblasts. And the entire mass of these UAVs moved today in a 'creeping' advance towards the western regions of our country," Ihnat added.
Air defense missile units, electronic warfare systems, and aviation, particularly Western aircraft such as F-16s and Mirage 2000s, were employed to counter the aerial assault.
More about the Russian attack
Overnight into June 6, Russian forces conducted a massive assault on several Ukrainian oblasts, including Kyiv, Ternopil, and Volyn.
In Kyiv, missiles and drones struck several districts, causing fires in apartment buildings and other civilian infrastructure. There are reports of four fatalities and 20 injuries.
For Ternopil Oblast, local authorities reported that the overnight Russian attack was the most massive to date. Russian missiles and drones hit industrial and infrastructure facilities in Ternopil.
As a result, parts of the city were left without electricity, and there were reports of smoke and deteriorated air quality due to a fire at an industrial site. Meanwhile, in Lutsk, the Russians hit a multi-story residential building, causing partial destruction.
Additionally, the consequences of the attack were reported in the Lviv, Poltava, Khmelnytskyi, and Chernihiv oblasts.
