Ukraine wants to order 27 Patriot systems from US — Zelenskyy
Ukraine wants to order 27 Patriot air defense systems from U.S. manufacturers, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told The Guardian in an interview, while also urging European allies to lend theirs.
Zelenskyy said he is working closely with international partners to protect Ukraine from Russian drone attacks. However, Britain and other allies rule out sending fighter jets to patrol the skies.
The Ukrainian president also said he wants to order 27 Patriot air defense systems from U.S. manufacturers. Meanwhile, European countries "could lend" Ukraine their existing Patriots, he said.
Asked if the EU and Britain are doing enough ahead of winter, Zelenskyy replied: "It’s never enough. It’s enough when the war ends. And enough when Putin understands that he has to stop."
In late October, Zelenskyy announced Ukraine aims to buy 25 Patriot systems and is preparing a contract. Funds for the purchase are expected to be obtained from frozen Russian assets.
Amid this, he called on Europe to let Ukraine jump the queue for these air defense systems.
