Ukraine spots “correlations” between Chinese satellite imagery and Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy sector
Ukrainian intelligence officers noticed correlations between Chinese satellite imagery of Ukraine and Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy facilities, said President Volodymyr Zelensky, following a report by Oleh Ivashchenko, head of Ukraine's Foreign Intelligence Service.
“We are observing an increase in Russia's ties with entities in China that can provide space intelligence data. Unfortunately, there have been correlations between Chinese satellite imagery of Ukraine and Russian strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities. We consider such cases to be activities that allow Russia to prolong the war and make diplomatic approaches less serious. We will also communicate with our partners on this issue," Zelensky said.
The Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine has already reported that China provided Russia with satellite intelligence data for missile strikes on Ukraine, in particular on facilities belonging to foreign investors.
“There is evidence of high-level cooperation between Russia and China in conducting satellite reconnaissance of Ukraine's territory with the aim of identifying and further exploring strategic targets for destruction. At the same time, as we have seen in recent months, these targets may belong to foreign investors,” said Oleh Alexandrov, a representative of Ukraine's Foreign Intelligence Service.
