Ukraine retakes nearly all of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast in 2026 counteroffensive

Ukrainian forces have reclaimed nearly the entire territory of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast and more than 400 km² overall on the Oleksandrivka axis during a counteroffensive operation, General Staff operations chief Maj. Gen. Oleksandr Komarenko told RBC-Ukraine.

Ukrainian defenders still need to finish work on three small settlements in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast and clear two more.

In addition, the General Staff stated that in February the Defense Forces regained control over a larger area of Ukrainian land than the aggressor captured in the same period. This happened for the first time since 2024, when the Kursk operation took place.

Over the month, the Air Assault Forces grouping restored control over 285.6 km² on the Oleksandrivka axis. Overall since the start of the operation, more than 400 km² has been brought back under control.

Currently, according to Komarenko, the situation on the front remains difficult.

“We are doing everything we can — and even a little more — to restrain and destroy the enemy. The Pokrovsk and Oleksandrivka axes remain the hardest: this is where the enemy concentrates its main efforts. But gradually we are leveling the situation thanks to our active actions. Now the number of enemy attacks in the areas of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad has somewhat decreased due to the redirection of his troops to the Oleksandrivka axis,” he said.

The general noted that during the spring campaign the Pokrovsk, Oleksandrivka, and Zaporizhzhia axes will remain priorities for Russian troops.
