Russia takes a risk with reserves and is now weakening its own borders — Zelenskyy
Russia is increasing the size of its grouping in Ukraine by drawing military personnel from its strategic reserve, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a meeting with journalists, hromadske’s correspondent reports.
“We see an interesting situation: every month we destroy as many occupiers as they mobilize, yet the size of their grouping on Ukrainian territory continues to grow. We believe they are increasing their forces by involving military personnel from the strategic reserve,” Zelenskyy explained.
The president said he had already discussed countermeasures with Commander-in-Chief Gen. Oleksandr Syrskyi and Chief of the General Staff Lt. Gen. Andriy Hnatov.
“We consider this a risky step for the Russians because such actions weaken their borders with other states, where the situation for them is not simple. Nevertheless, they have taken this step,” Zelenskyy said.
He added that new Russian military maps indicate the aggressor intends to capture Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka and Pokrovsk by the end of April. In Zelenskyy’s view, this is impossible.
“They are not setting such deadlines for the first time, and now they have set this target for themselves. I already spoke about our meeting with British intelligence — we have trusting relations with them. They also do not see any possibility for the Russians to achieve this,” the president said.
