Ukraine hits Russian defense factory 1,500 km deep with Flamingo missiles — Zelenskyy
Ukrainian forces used F-5 Flamingo long-range cruise missiles to strike a Russian defense enterprise in Cheboksary, Chuvash Republic, more than 1,500 kilometers inside Russia, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday.
“Our long-range sanctions continue to provide an entirely just response to Russian strikes. Last night, combat launches of F-5 Flamingo cruise missiles were carried out as part of the Armed Forces’ Deep Strike operation against several enemy targets, including military-industrial complex facilities in Cheboksary. The Ukrainian ‘Flamingos’ covered a distance of more than 1,500 kilometers,” he said
The targeted plant produced relay protection systems, automation equipment and low-voltage apparatus, and supplied navigation components for the Russian navy, missile industry, aviation and armored vehicles.
“Everything that the Russians are using in the war against us — against Ukraine,” he added.
Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine declared a ceasefire regime starting at midnight into May 6 but will “act mirror-like” in response to Russian actions.
“Russia must end its war and move to real diplomacy. We have made our proposal,” he stated.
Background
Russia has declared a ceasefire to mark Russia's Victory Day holiday in World War II, which will be in effect on May 8 and 9. Moscow said it expects the Ukrainian side to "follow" its example. If Ukraine strikes "with the aim of disrupting the Victory Day celebrations," Russian troops will "strike back at the center of Kyiv."
President Zelenskyy responded that there was no official appeal to Ukraine regarding the modalities of the cessation of hostilities, which the Russians have publicly stated. But Ukraine still declared a regime of ceasefire with the intention of acting symmetrically.
