Russia drops gas grenade on Ukrainian bunker in latest chemical weapons attack

Russian troops deployed a drone to drop a grenade containing an unknown toxic substance onto a bunker held by soldiers of the 225th Separate Assault Regiment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the unit reported on Telegram.

The incident occurred after a group of the regiment's fighters counterattacked and retook positions previously held by Russian forces, which then responded with an FPV drone strike followed by the chemical grenade drop.

The Ukrainian troops were able to evacuate the bunker and move to another position before sustaining casualties.

The regiment said all available evidence has been handed over to the relevant authorities for inclusion in the existing record of Russian war crimes.

Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, more than 13,000 incidents involving dangerous chemical substances used by Russian forces against Ukraine's Defense Forces have been documented.

The European Union Council has imposed sanctions on several Russian Armed Forces units over the use of chemical weapons in Ukraine. Investigations are ongoing in Ukraine to hold Russia's military and political leadership, and all those responsible, accountable for these acts.
