Ukraine's SBU hits two Russian support vessels and air defenses in occupied Kerch (VIDEO)
Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) struck two Russian military support vessels and air defense assets in the occupied city of Kerch in Crimea, according to its statement.
Alpha special operations units carried out successful strikes on vessels located at the Zatoka shipyard in occupied Kerch.
According to the agency, SBU drones hit the Project 15310 cable-laying ships Volga and Vyatka, as well as the cargo-passenger ferry Petropavlovsk, which was said to be 96% complete. Large fires broke out on the vessels after the strikes, the SBU said.
The agency said Volga and Vyatka were being built for Russia’s Defense Ministry. Their intended purpose was to deploy the Garmoniya underwater acoustic surveillance system for submarine military intelligence.
The ships can also lay non-contact mines to strike other vessels, underwater pipelines, cables, and other critical infrastructure. SBU said each vessel is worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
