Russian forces launch massive drone and missile attack on Kyiv, killing at least 13

Russian troops carried out a massive overnight attack on Kyiv using drones and missiles, including ballistic ones, killing at least 13 people and causing very serious destruction across the Ukrainian capital, as reported by Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko, the head of the city military administration Tymur Tkachenko, and the State Emergency Service.

The strikes triggered fires and damaged civilian infrastructure and residential buildings in multiple districts.

Tkachenko described the destruction as "very serious."

In the Darnytskyi district, a five-story residential building and a nine-story building were partially destroyed, with damage from the first to sixth floors, along with upper floors of a 16-story building and private homes. Klitschko reported people trapped in one apartment after falling debris.

In the Shevchenkivskyi district, the roof of a seven-story residential building and a hotel caught fire. Fires also broke out in a five-story building and a three-story non-residential structure. A substation for emergency medical services was damaged, wounding five medical workers, including one paramedic in extremely serious condition.

In the Holosiyivskyi district, a fire broke out on the technical floor of a 16-story building.

In the Pecherskyi district, a nine-story residential building was damaged, and a fire covered 200 square meters on the first and second floors, where rescuers saved one person.

In the Obolonskyi district, a fire occurred at a warehouse site.

In the Sviatoshynskyi district, two private homes were damaged, with people trapped in one.

In the Desnianskyi district, a nine-story residential building was hit.

8:39 a.m. update: The death toll following Russia's massive strike on Kyiv has risen to 13, according to the interior minister.

9:02 a.m. update: According to Mayor Klitschko, the number of injured has also risen to 86, 70 of whom have been hospitalized.

Initial reports indicated 10 killed and 34 injured, though numbers varied slightly between officials. As of 7:31 a.m., the city military administration said the number of wounded had risen to 56.

The day before, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned of a possible new large-scale Russian strike based on intelligence reports and urged residents to use shelters. He cut short a visit to Ireland and returned to Ukraine.
