Death toll in Kyiv rises to 30 after Russian mass attack as three more bodies recovered from rubble
The number of people killed in Kyiv as a result of Russia's massive attack overnight into July 2 has increased after the State Emergency Service reported that rescuers recovered the bodies of three more people from under the rubble. Thus, the death toll from the Russian strike rose to 30.
At 8:23 a.m., head of the Kyiv City Military Administration Tymur Tkachenko said three more people remain out of contact and their fate is unknown. Search and rescue operations continue.
Russia massively attacked Kyiv overnight into July 2. The strikes hit the Shevchenkivskyi, Holosiyivskyi, Pecherskyi, Podilskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Darnytskyi, and Obolonskyi districts.
Up to 100 people were injured in the capital. Kyiv Emergency Service spokesman Pavlo Petrov told hromadske: "In terms of the number of victims killed by Russia, this is one of the largest attacks on Kyiv."
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Kyiv was the main target of the Russian strike, during which they used 74 missiles and 496 drones of various types. A feature of the attack was the simultaneous use of various air attack means from different directions, as well as a large number of ballistic and jet-powered drones. Air defenses neutralized 48 missiles and 476 drones.
