Ukrainian intelligence obtains 'strategically important' data from major Russian research center

Ukrainian intelligence officers announced obtaining a massive array of closed data from one of the key enterprises of Russia's military-industrial complex — the M. Stelmakh Scientific Research Institute "Polyus," according to Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence.

It includes dozens of gigabytes of internal document flow and official information of the managerial and technical links of the institute, which the intelligence calls a legitimate military target for the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine.

"The Research Institute 'Polyus' is one of the leading research and production centers of the aggressor state, which is part of the orbit of the Rostec corporation," the intelligence officers explained. “The institute specializes in high-tech developments — laser technologies, inertial systems and quantum electronics. The database obtained by intelligence officers contains information about the enemy's existing and promising projects in the field of production of high-precision weapons, as well as modernization — in particular through the use of foreign components — of missile weapons and drones that Russia uses to wage a genocidal war against Ukraine.”

Analysis of the obtained data indicates that the Russian military-industrial complex is increasingly sinking into dependence on supplies of components from China, Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence notes. For example, optical parts produced by Chinese companies are key in navigation and guidance systems of all types of operational-tactical level Iskander missiles.

Laser gyroscopes from the Tianjin Navigation Institute (PRC) occupy a separate important place in the production processes related to navigation, stabilization and guidance systems of various types of Russian missiles and drones.

According to intelligence data, "Polyus" is making significant efforts on the project to create a Russian laser anti-drone complex, in particular its main component — a technological system that is supposed to detect, track and hold the target in the laser action field. According to the documents, Russia has already begun the stage of testing experimental samples of the specified laser complex in Bryansk Oblast.

The Ukrainian intel notes that the obtained array of closed information makes it possible to determine the priority areas of work of the high-tech component of Russia's military-industrial complex, reveals production chains, demonstrates the enemy's weak spots, as well as attempts under sanctions and isolation to provide foreign components for the production of various types of weapons to continue terrorist strikes on Ukraine.

In addition, the "Polyus" Research Institute database contains personal data of all Russian designers, engineers and other specialists involved in the production of deadly weapons who are responsible for war crimes during the war launched by Russia against Ukraine.
