Russian ballistic missiles hit Kyiv again, killing 2 and injuring 6, including 16-year-old boy
Russian forces attacked Kyiv overnight into July 16 with ballistic missiles, striking two districts of the capital and killing two people, while injuring six others, including a 16-year-old boy, according to the city mayor Vitaliy Klitschko, the head of the city military administration Tymur Tkachenko, and the State Emergency Service.
In the Darnytskyi district, a fire broke out in an administrative and warehouse building after the strike. Parked trucks and another warehouse building nearby also caught fire. Two people were killed at that location, and two others were injured, including one child.
In the Sviatoshynskyi district, a one-story warehouse building caught fire after the strike. Three people were injured there.
Emergency crews were still working to deal with the aftermath of the attack, and officials said information on casualties was still being clarified. Klitschko said six people were injured overall.
During previous large-scale attacks on Kyiv, Ukrainian air defenses shot down most drones and cruise missiles, but failed to intercept ballistic missiles.
Against that backdrop, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the reason was insufficient supplies of interceptor missiles from allies.
“As long as missiles for the Patriots remain in allied warehouses, that only encourages Russia to keep ‘defeating’ residential buildings. The United States and Europe have enough power to stop this terror,” Zelenskyy said.
After the latest strike, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said he would speak with colleagues in countries that have stocks of Patriot interceptor missiles so they could be transferred to Kyiv as soon as possible. He added that fewer such missiles are produced worldwide in a month than Russia launches in the same period.
