Ukrainian assault regiment captures 64 Russian troops meant to slip into rear areas
Ukraine’s 225th Separate Assault Regiment reported capturing 64 Russian troops who had been tasked with quietly infiltrating the rear of Ukrainian positions in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, according to the unit’s statement on Facebook.
According to the unit, its soldiers carried out a sweep against infiltrated enemy groups in the areas of Ternuvate, Kosivtseve, Rizdvianka, Verkhnia Tersa, and Vozdvyzhivka.
“They were supposed to quietly slip into the rear of Ukrainian positions. Not engage in combat. Search for UAV crews, gather intelligence, and plant Russian flags for yet more propaganda videos about ‘captured’ villages. Instead, they ended up in captivity. The result of the operation: 64 Russian prisoners of war,” the regiment said.
The 225th Regiment did not specify when the Russian troops were captured.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, over the previous day Russian forces carried out 21 attacks on the Huliaypole front near Zaliznychne and in the direction of Dobropillia, Tsvitkove, Vozdvyzhivka and Hirke. On the Orikhiv front, Ukrainian troops repelled one Russian attempt to advance near Shcherbaky.
