Ukraine delivers 4 tons of food by drone to civilians trapped in Russian-occupied Oleshky
Ukrainian forces have delivered about four tons of food by drone to 100 locations in Russian-occupied Oleshky, where regional authorities say around 2,000 civilians remain trapped with severely limited access to food, water and electricity.
The operation was part of a supply effort that has been running since March, with Ukrainian units flying food across the Dnipro River to residents cut off from conventional humanitarian deliveries, Kherson regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin said.
The latest delivery, one of the largest conducted so far, involved several Ukrainian Marine Corps, National Guard and Border Guard units. About 4,000 kilograms (8,800 pounds) of food were delivered to 100 designated locations across the city.
Prokudin said around 2,000 civilians, including nearly 50 children, remain in Oleshky and are effectively unable to leave the occupied city.
He accused Russian forces of shooting down drones carrying food, confiscating or reselling supplies intended for civilians, and detaining and beating residents who receive humanitarian packages.
Ukrainian authorities have previously warned of a worsening humanitarian situation in Oleshky and sought to organize the evacuation of civilians from the city.
Oleshky, on the Russian-occupied eastern bank of the Dnipro River in Kherson Oblast, has been under Russian control since the early weeks of the full-scale invasion.
