Death toll from Russian strike on Pryluky rises to 16, including four children
A Russian missile strike on a residential building in Pryluky, Chernihiv Oblast, killed at least 16 people, including four children, Ukrainian police said on Oct. 7.
Another 55 people were injured, including seven children, according to figures reported as of 3 p.m.
The strike damaged at least 15 apartment buildings and 16 private homes in the city. Authorities said the full extent of the damage was still being assessed.
Emergency workers rescued 15 people from the rubble, including a child. Search-and-rescue operations remain underway, meaning the casualty toll could still change.
Pryluky was attacked during a large-scale Russian missile and drone assault on Ukraine on the morning of Oct. 7. The city has declared three days of mourning.
Ukraine's Air Force said air defenses intercepted 161 Russian aerial targets overnight, including 117 drones, five ballistic missiles and 39 cruise missiles.
The same overnight attack killed two people in Kyiv and another two in Kremenchuk, Poltava Oblast.
