Russian strike damages Kharkiv apartment building as 121 drones target Ukraine overnight
A Russian strike damaged a nine-story apartment building in Kharkiv on October 12, injuring at least five people, as Moscow launched 121 drones and an air-launched missile at Ukraine overnight, Ukrainian authorities reported.
The strike destroyed parts of the building's seventh through ninth floors, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said. Search and rescue operations were underway.
According to Ukraine's Air Force, Russia launched 121 drones, including 76 jet-powered Shahed-type UAVs, alongside a Kh-59 guided air-launched missile.
Ukrainian air defenses shot down or suppressed 89 drones, including 55 jet-powered UAVs, as of 9 a.m. local time. The military reported strikes at 15 locations and falling debris at four others.
The attack was still ongoing when the Air Force issued its morning report, with several Russian drones remaining in Ukrainian airspace.
Russian strikes also damaged a postal operator's logistics facilities in Odesa Oblast, railway and energy infrastructure in Zhytomyr Oblast, and an industrial facility in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, where a major fire broke out.
The overnight attacks followed a Russian strike on a grocery store outside Kharkiv on October 11 that killed three people and injured at least 22 others, including a child.
