Sweden provides Ukraine with largest aid package worth over $1 billion, which includes airborne surveillance & control aircraft
Sweden has announced its largest aid package since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, worth 13.3 billion kroner (more than $1 billion), reads the statement of the Swedish government.
The package included airborne surveillance and control aircraft (ASC 890) to strengthen Ukrainian air defenses, as well as the entire Swedish stockpile of PBV 302 armored personnel carriers.
According to the Stockholm, thanks to the ASC 89 aircraft, Ukraine will be able to detect air and sea targets at a long distance and strike them. In addition, the aid package will include advanced RB 99-AMRAAM medium-range air-to-air missiles that can be used from both aircraft and ground-based air defense systems.
Sweden will also provide additional 155-mm artillery rounds and resources to maintain previously provided equipment.
Earlier, the Swedish government approved a plan for military aid to Ukraine worth SEK 75 billion ($7.07 billion). It is designed for three years — from 2024 to 2026. These funds will be spent on long-term donations of additional military equipment and the purchase of new ones for direct delivery to Ukraine.
At the time, the Swedish PM stated that his country will support Ukraine "as much as necessary." In total, since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, Sweden has provided Ukraine with SEK 43.5 billion (about $4.13 billion) in aid.
