Blackout at Chornobyl NPP

The Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant is hit with a blackout after a Russian attack on an energy infrastructure in Slavutych, which is located about 50 kilometers east of the NPP.

The power supply was cut off at the New Safe Confinement, a key structure that isolates the destroyed fourth power unit of the Chornobyl NPP and prevents the release of radioactive materials into the environment.

Heavy rainfall in Odesa kills nine

Heavy rains killed nine, including a child, in Odesa and the Odesa region, State Emergency Service said. Rescuers have been battling the aftermath of the flooding for over a day now. It is reported that Odesa was hit with six weeks' worth of rain on Tuesday.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy instructed the Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kuleba to investigate the operations in Odesa that could lead to such deadly consequences of the flood.

Zelensky posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine to Andrii Parubii

President Zelensky posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine to former Verkhovna Rada Chairman Andrii Parubii, who was shot dead in Lviv on 30 August.

The title was also posthumously awarded to the activist and soldier Hennadii Afanasiev; Stepan Chubenko, a boy who was tortured and shot by pro-Russian militants; and the children's writer Volodymyr Vakulenko, who was kidnapped and killed by the Russians. Zelensky also awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine to 11 Ukrainian service members, 4 of whom were posthumously.

Princess Anne made an unannounced visit to Kyiv

Princess Anne made an unannounced visit to Kyiv on Tuesday. She met with the President of Ukraine and the First Lady, and spoke with children who had been returned from occupation.

Buckingham Palace says the purpose of Princess Anne's visit was to draw attention to the "traumatic experiences of children living on the frontline of the conflict."

US government shuts down for the first time since 2019

The US government shuts down for the first time since 2019 after Congress fails to pass the funding bill.

The shutdown could disrupt federal services and leave many federal employees on furlough.
