Germany to equip Ukraine with long-range weapons – Chancellor Merz

Berlin is helping equip Ukraine's army with long-range weapons, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said during a press conference on Wednesday, AFP reports.

Germany has been intensively working with Ukraine over the past several months on "projects related to long-range missiles," Merz said, adding that the Ukrainian military will be supplied with such arms.

However, the chancellor did not clarify whether the aid includes Taurus missiles. He said he would not publicly discuss details, as "a certain degree of ambiguity" is needed.

"I can only say that we are doing everything we can to equip the Ukrainian army with weapon systems that have the appropriate range," Merz said. "And this will continue in the coming weeks and months, if necessary, up to and including the production of such weapon systems in Ukraine itself."

The approach, he added, is designed to complicate Russia's assessment of Ukraine's true capabilities.
