Ukraine to receive $5 billion in weapons under NATO's PURL program by year's end

Ukraine will receive $5 billion in weapons under the PURL program by the end of 2025, NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Šekerinska told the Suspilne public broadcaster.

The funds will go toward purchasing air defense systems, ammunition and critical spare parts for Ukraine. The main emphasis will be on strengthening air defense.

Šekerinska noted that logistics are operating around the clock through hubs in Poland and Romania, with European allies and Canada funding the packages.

Australia and New Zealand have also joined the PURL program.

Šekerinska added that despite significant deliveries, Ukraine "always needs more air defense," so NATO countries are increasing production to cover this deficit.

More about the NATO initiative

On July 14, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that the U.S. will provide Ukraine with "billions of dollars" in weapons that European NATO allies will purchase and distribute. In particular, he said up to 17 Patriot air defense systems are being prepared for shipment to Ukraine.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte called such a decision "completely logical." According to him, Trump called him on July 10 and said he decided Ukraine should get "everything necessary for self-defense," but wants Europeans to pay for it.

Officially, the new U.S. and NATO mechanism for supplying American weapons to Ukraine is called the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL).
