Ukraine and Germany signed agreement on joint development of air defence against ballistics — Pistorius

The Ministers of Defense of Ukraine and Germany, Mykhailo Fedorov and Boris Pistorius, signed an agreement allowing countries to jointly develop new air defense systems to counter Russian ballistics, said Defense Minister Boris Pistorius during the opening of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting (also known as the Ramstein group).

Germany’s minister said he was impressed by the innovativeness of the Ukrainian military, and Germany will learn how to wage war in partnership with Ukraine.

The Defence Ministers signed an agreement that will allow Ukraine to join efforts with Germany in developing new air defense systems to counter ballistic missiles. The German minister said that seven German companies are already interested in this deal.

During the meeting, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine “has the tools to put Russia on the path of diplomacy,” but Russian ballistic missiles remain a problem.

“That’s why today, Ukraine and Germany are taking a very important, in my opinion, joint step. We have certain technologies, and Germany has certain technologies. And today our defence ministers have already signed an agreement to combine these capabilities together,” the president said.

Zelensky also reminded those present about the Ukrainian defence-tech company Fire Point, which is "capable of producing ballistic missiles and is moving towards it." The head of state said that by this winter, we should see the results of the partners' work on this anti-ballistic initiative.

Earlier today, Pistorius announced that Germany will allocate $400 million to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence and purchase Patriot missiles under the PURL program.
