Trump calls people who say ‘artificial intelligence’ instead of ‘super intelligence’ enemies

US President Donald Trump has declared that the White House considers anyone who continues to use the term “artificial intelligence” instead of “super intelligence” an enemy, escalating his campaign to rename the technology.

“The White House considers anyone that uses the term, ‘Artificial Intelligence,’ as opposed to the highly accepted new and more accurate term, ‘Super Intelligence,’ THE ENEMY!” Trump wrote on Truth Social on October 9.

The statement follows a September 30 executive order directing US federal agencies to replace the term “artificial intelligence” with “super intelligence,” or “SI,” in public communications, government websites, reports and regulatory documents.

Trump previously announced the proposed change during his address to the UN General Assembly, arguing that the word “artificial” made the technology sound fake.

“Using the name ‘artificial intelligence’ makes it fake, it sounds fake, and it's not. It's actually amazing,” he said.

The executive order describes increasingly advanced AI capabilities as ushering in a new era of “super intelligence.”

However, the two terms are not interchangeable in established scientific usage. Artificial intelligence broadly refers to computer systems capable of performing tasks associated with human intelligence, while artificial superintelligence generally describes a hypothetical system that would surpass human capabilities across a wide range of intellectual tasks.

Trump has also announced plans to establish an AI Force and appoint a leader to oversee the initiative. He has described the technology as a new industrial revolution comparable in significance to the emergence of the internet and suggested the industry could eventually account for as much as 25% of US GDP.

Trump's latest statement did not specify any legal consequences for individuals or organizations that continue using the term “artificial intelligence.”
