Denmark delivers over 50,000 rounds of ammunition for Ukraine's F-16s

Denmark has expedited the delivery of more than 50,000 rounds of 20 mm ammunition for Ukraine's F-16 fighter jets, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry announced on October 23.

Ukrainian pilots are already using the ammunition in their aircraft's onboard cannons to intercept Russian jet-powered attack drones.

The shipment was fast-tracked in response to Ukraine's request for additional ammunition.

"Such a rapid response directly contributes to strengthening Ukrainian air defenses and protecting people from Russian aerial attacks," the ministry said, thanking Denmark for its assistance.

According to the ministry, F-16s are among Ukraine's most effective weapons against jet-powered Shahed drones, making adequate ammunition supplies essential.

In September, a Ukrainian F-16 squadron commander known by the callsign Phantom said pilots were facing shortages of AIM-9 and AIM-120 air-to-air missiles and sometimes had to rely on their aircraft's built-in 20 mm cannons to intercept Russian aerial threats.

The tactic carries additional risks, particularly when engaging small, slow-moving targets at night.
