Children in Russian traditional dress and Soviet-style uniform attend White House Halloween celebration

A girl dressed in traditional Russian clothing and a boy wearing a Soviet-style military uniform were among thousands of children who attended the White House Halloween celebration hosted by US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump on October 29.

The children were seen approaching the presidential couple during a trick-or-treat event on the White House South Lawn, according to footage from the official White House livestream.

The girl wore a traditional Russian sarafan dress and kokoshnik headdress, while the boy appeared in a Soviet-style military cap and tanker uniform.

Melania Trump briefly touched the boy’s cap before the children received candy from the president and first lady.

The children's identities and the reasons behind their costume choices are unknown.

According to the White House, approximately 6,000 guests were invited to the celebration. Other children arrived dressed as Barbie, Batman, US military personnel and firefighters.

The festivities featured a performance by a US Air Force string ensemble and a flyover by Air Force One. Trump also briefly danced to the theme from Ghostbusters.
