Latvia extradites 3 suspects over arson at Estonian defense company supplying Ukraine
Latvia has extradited three suspects to Estonia over an arson attack on a building used by defense manufacturer Milrem Robotics, which supplies unmanned ground vehicles to Ukraine.
The three Latvian citizens were questioned by Estonia's Internal Security Service and remanded in custody by a court, ERR reported, citing state prosecutor Gardi Anderson.
The suspects are currently being investigated on suspicion of damaging and destroying property, although prosecutors said the legal classification of the case could change as the investigation continues.
“We are examining all possibilities, including whether this could have been an act of sabotage,” Anderson said.
The fire broke out overnight on Aug. 15 at a building used by Milrem Robotics in Tallinn's Lasnamäe district. A local resident alerted emergency services after noticing suspicious activity near the building. No one was injured.
After the fire, Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal said authorities were investigating possible Russian involvement.
“One version being checked is that it may have been an act of sabotage and that Russia was behind the arson,” Michal said at the time.
Milrem Robotics manufactures unmanned ground vehicles and has supplied them to Ukraine. In June, the company opened a production line in the Netherlands, where the Dutch government is funding an additional 100 vehicles for the Ukrainian military.
