Explosion at Spanish ammunition plant supplying Ukraine injures three
An explosion at an ammunition plant supplying Ukraine in southern Spain injured three people on October 30, Spanish newspaper ABC reported, citing emergency services.
The blast occurred around 9 a.m. at the El Fargue ammunition plant on the outskirts of Granada, in a restricted area used for burning gunpowder.
Spain's 112 emergency service confirmed that three people sustained minor hearing injuries and were taken to a hospital for evaluation. No serious injuries were reported.
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation. According to the UGT labor union, the blast occurred during a routine test in an area that had been cordoned off.
Police, firefighters and explosives specialists responded to the incident.
The plant, which employs approximately 300 people and is owned by Slovakia's MSM Group, was closed for the remainder of the day.
Since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the facility has expanded production of ammunition of various calibers and missile components intended for Ukraine, ABC reported.
The explosion follows another incident involving the facility on October 13, when a truck carrying mortar rounds overturned on a nearby road. Authorities evacuated several homes as a precaution, but no injuries were reported.
