Kyiv plans alternative Dnipro crossings as Russia intensifies attacks on bridges

Kyiv authorities plan to finance alternative crossings over the Dnipro River as Russian forces intensify strikes on bridges connecting the Ukrainian capital's two banks, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on October 27.

The city will seek 1 billion hryvnias ($24 million) to fund the construction of combined water crossings and access roads, Klitschko said following a meeting of Kyiv's Defense Council.

Military commanders will determine where the crossings should be located, subject to approval by the Kyiv City Military Administration.

Officials also discussed additional measures to protect existing bridges from Russian attacks, with city specialists tasked with developing technical solutions.

Russia has repeatedly targeted Kyiv's bridges in recent weeks, including the Northern and Southern bridges.

During a ballistic missile attack on October 27, Russian forces again struck the Southern Bridge, damaging metro infrastructure.

Klitschko did not announce a construction timeline or say whether funding had already been secured.
