Ukraine brings home 103 service members in new prisoner exchange with Russia

Ukraine brought home 103 service members from Russian captivity in a new prisoner exchange, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Ukraine’s Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War reported on August 19.

Those released include members of the Ukrainian Navy, Territorial Defense Forces, National Guard and State Border Guard Service. The group includes soldiers, sergeants and several officers.

Some of the returning service members defended Mariupol, while others fought in the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Dnipro and Sumy sectors.

The Coordination Headquarters said the exchange was the first stage of a broader process and thanked the United States and the United Arab Emirates for helping organize it.

The youngest service member released was born in 2000, while the oldest is 59.

All those returned to Ukraine will undergo medical examinations and receive physical and psychological rehabilitation, as well as state-provided financial support.
