Ukraine’s SBU officer shot dead in Kyiv

An employee of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) was killed during a shooting in Kyiv, the SBU press service told hromadske.

On Thursday morning, police reported a shooting in Kyiv’s Holosiyivskyi district, where they found a man’s body with a gunshot wound.

Former intelligence officer Roman Chervinskiy claimed the victim was Colonel Ivan Voronych, stating, “A person who fought the enemy since 2014 and was among those who pioneered a direction in the Service that now creates significant problems for the orcs.”

According to Chervinskiy, the man was killed with five close-range shots as he left his residence.

The SBU confirmed that a criminal investigation has been opened regarding the killing of their employee. The SBU and National Police are investigating all circumstances of the crime.

The pre-trial investigation is proceeding under Article 348 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code (attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer, member of a public formation for maintaining public order and state border protection, or military service member).
