Over 100,000 people in Volyn Oblast left without electricity due to Russian attacks on New Year's Eve

Volyn Oblast endured a massive Russian drone attack all night into Thursday. Critical infrastructure sites in the region were targeted, according to regional governor Ivan Rudnytskyi.

Some Shahed drones were downed, but there were also hits. Fires broke out from the strikes, including in the Lutsk and Kovel districts.

No casualties were reported. Emergency services are working at impact sites; cleanup continues.

Volynoblenergo said 103,341 subscribers were disconnected from power supply.

Overnight attack

Ukraine's Air Force said Russian forces launched 205 strike drones at Ukraine from 6 p.m. December 31 through New Year's night.

As of 8:30 a.m., Ukrainian air defenses downed/suppressed 176 Russian UAVs in the north, south and east of the country. However, 24 strike UAV impacts were recorded at 15 locations.

Russian forces carried out several waves of drone strikes on civilian infrastructure in Odesa Oblast. Energy sites and residential infrastructure came under attack.

In Odesa, a two-story residential building was damaged; a drone hit an apartment on the 17th floor of a high-rise without detonating. There were no casualties.
