10 killed, 4 missing after Russian missile strike in Kharkiv
Rescue operations ended in Kharkiv after a Russian missile struck an apartment building on Saturday, killing 10 people, including two children, and leaving four missing, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported.
Search-and-rescue operations were completed after two days at the building hit by a Russian missile.
“Rescuers cleared heavy concrete structures meter by meter. In total more than 2,400 cubic meters of building materials were removed. This was a deliberate strike. In the middle of the night when dozens of families — residents of this five-story building — were sleeping,” the minister wrote.
As of now 10 people are known to have been killed, including two children — a seven-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl. Fragments of bodies were also recovered from the rubble; identification continues.
At least 16 people were injured in the attack, including three children.
Canine units with search dogs will continue working even after the rescue operation ends — according to statements four people remain missing.
As a result of the attack about 20 buildings, vehicles and an educational institution were damaged in the city.
Hundreds of specialists took part in clearing rubble and addressing the fallout from the missile strike. Canine units, high-angle rescuers, engineering units and State Emergency Service teams from other regions were involved.
Work was complicated by constant air raid alerts.
On March 7, Russian forces deliberately targeted rescue groups again during operations. Three State Emergency Service vehicles were destroyed in Dnipro and one in Kharkiv.
